About On the Record

On the Record is a short weekly briefing for GP practice managers and Primary Care Network leads in the UK. Each post covers one change that matters: what changed, who it affects, what to do and by when.

Who is behind it

On the Record is published by Abtrace. Abtrace builds software that helps GP practices find patients who are overdue monitoring and recall them. We started On the Record because the updates that matter to practices are spread across many websites, and most are long.

How posts are written

  • We follow official sources: NHS England, the Department of Health and Social Care, CQC, NICE, MHRA, BMA public pages, PCSE and the devolved governments.
  • Some posts are first drafted with the help of an AI model, working only from the linked source. Every post is then checked and approved by a person before it is published.
  • Posts with clinical content are reviewed by a clinician.
  • Every post links to its source. We summarise in our own words and never republish.
  • We say which UK nations a post applies to. Contract and QOF posts are England-only unless stated.

Editorial policy

  • We do not give clinical advice beyond what the source says.
  • We do not mention Abtrace in posts, apart from one short note at the end of drug monitoring posts.
  • If we get something wrong, we correct the post and add a dated note at the bottom. We never change facts silently.
